Inside Iron Horse: Meet Alex Jonathan Brown.

Read Time: 3 Mins

Inside Iron Horse is our employee spotlight blog series that takes a look at the people that keep this agency and our clients moving and growing. Join us in celebrating these remarkable people as we dive into their passions, talents, and motivations.

This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight one of the newest members of the Iron Horse team, Alex Brown! Alex has been with us for 8 months in the role of Senior Copywriter. This long-bearded, tofu-eating, historical fiction-lover not only knows how to turn a phrase, but he’s also adept at communicating the lived experience of underserved communities, having served as Content Director for a non-profit marketing agency supporting LGBTQIA+ causes as well as undocumented and unhoused individuals.

What 3 words would you use to describe Iron Horse?

Innovative, Client Focused, Unpretentious

What’s your favorite part about working at Iron Horse?

There’s such a wild mix of people here, in the best way. You’ve got all these amazing brains approaching problems from entirely different angles, and I think it makes our work so much better. Our clients benefit from having some really strong, really professional, really insightful business minds working on their projects… and they also benefit from having a little beverage goblin crawl out of their nest to throw in a suggestion no one else has thought of. (Sometimes, that’s the same person.)

What do you bring into every client relationship?

I try really hard to make sure we stay focused on the fact that when we’re doing marketing, we’re marketing to real, actual, human people. I really think there’s a way to do all of this where that person’s day is just a little bit better because our work is in it. When we can manage that, the whole “selling stuff” part comes easy.

What’s your favorite new marketing trend?

I’m very much an Elder Millennial. I’m almost 40. My TikTok FYP is a mess. I have been to Vanderpump Dogs. I’m a digital native in all the worst ways and I’m basically middle aged.

There’s this growing realization that the Millennials everyone was so worried twenty years ago are making real, serious, business decisions now. And watching the B2C space slowly embrace that and talk to my cohort like the absolute weirdos we are is just the best.

Did we save the world? Absolutely not. (Sorry about that, good luck, Gen Z, we’re all pulling for you.) But are we ready for that “Don’t Be Suspicious” gif in a sales email? We’re getting there.

Who is the most influential person to you?

Too many people to list, because I borrow/steal from so many people. Being a human is just way better if you let everyone you interact with shape who you are in ways you love. When he was really young, my nephew Evan said “Accidents do happen sometimes.” This was ten years ago and I still say it twice a week. So, maybe him?

What causes do you care about?

Destigmatizing conversations about mental health. We’re all delightful little trainwrecks and we should talk about it more.

What book did you last read?

The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. Eternally grateful for the work (and people) that destroy my brain in the best way.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pad See Ew with tofu.

Most important question – does pineapple belong on pizza?

Yeah, obvi.
